The Frostburg MILE LONG YARD SALE,
will be held Friday July 4, 2008,  8 a.m. to 12,
from one end of Mt. Pleasant St. to the other.

Take this opportunity to get rid of some of your
unwanted stuff. Remember the adage, "One man's
trash is another man's treasure". Turn your trash
into cash!

We encourage each participant to stay
open until at least 12 noon.  If you want to stay open
later, that's up to you.

If you're new to yard sale selling (and even if you're
an old pro), be sure to read our tips -
Yardsalezip Tips:

  • Put prices on everything before the sale. It will save you a
lot of time answering questions and buyers will feel more
comfortable. But, be prepared to negotiate!

  • Have as many tables available as possible to place items
    for sale on.

  • Have at least $30 in small bills and coins for change.

  • It is best to accept cash only.

  • Keep your money safe by using a fanny pack or apron with
pockets. This will also keep you from running back and
    forth to a money box.

  • Have bags handy for people who purchase multiple items.
Use saved grocery bags - paper and plastic - and a few
empty boxes would be nice too.

  • Make sure that everything is in working order. Have some
batteries ready to test things that require batteries, and an
extension cord to test electrical items.

  • It is a good idea to write down the items that you sold and
for how much you sold them. Keep a calculator handy  for
    adding items up.
  • If someone makes an offer on an item that you aren't
ready to come down on, offer to take their name and
number in case you don't sell it during the yard sale.

  • If you have a lot of clothes or books, consider offering a
certain price per bag full or box full.

  • Consider selling some beverages on the side. Sodas,
coffee, etc. will bring in a little extra cash, and people may
    stay to browse longer.

  • Watch out for buyers who pile up a lot of items and then
offer one price for the pile (usually low). Go through the
pile and add it up. If you don't, you will never know what
they may have hidden in the center of the pile.

  • Invite a friend or two to join in the fun. One person can act
as "background", keeping an active eye on everything.

  • Get a good night sleep the night before so you're wide
awake and ready to start selling!
